After interviewing modern First Generation Americans, I am happy that I uncovered and discovered some interesting pieces of their stories. It was interesting to learn about how First Generation Americans identify and how strongly connected to their cultures they are.
The two people I interviewed, Jiwon and Michelle, didn't really face struggles when mixing their two cultures, but there were some internal battles. I find it inspiring that they embrace their culture even if it would cause troubles for them socially or within their family.
If I were to do this project again, I would like to interview more people. The First Generation Americans I know are all from my school and everyone around me seems comfortable within their cultures, but I wonder if this just on the outside.
What I liked best about interviewing Michelle and Jiwon is that I learned very interesting facts about them and their families. They're both friends of mine and it was interesting to learn about Michelle's struggles with her religion, but also how it brought her family together, and how Jiwon and parents value the Korean culture, even though her parent's don't even try to make an effort to understand the American side of her.
